Fortaleza defeats Atletico MG and dreams of staying in the Brazilian League

Leao Do Bessie is having a great moment in the Brazilian League. On Sunday night (11/30), Fortaleza hosted Atlético MG in a postponed match from round 35 of the Brazilian Championship. Thanks to Pochettino’s goal in the first half, the home team won 1-0 and is unbeaten in eight matches.

But, even with the result, Fortaleza is still in the relegation zone. The team ranks eighteenth with 40 points and continues its struggle against relegation. Leao is one point behind the first team outside the relegation zone, which is Santos. Atletico MG is in 13th place with 45.

The game

The match at Arena Castelao started warmly, without any dangerous chances for either team. During the first phase, Dodo was brought down in the penalty area and the players called for a penalty kick. However, offside was flagged during play.

In the 40th minute of the first half, Fortaleza opened the scoring. After excellent play on the left side, Bareiro received the ball inside the area and only passed it to Pochettino. He sent it into the back net without any chance for goalkeeper Iverson.

In the second half, Fortaleza threatened Atletico’s goal from the first minute. In the 11th minute, the team wasted an opportunity to score the second goal. However, Bareiro ended up digging inside the small area.

Throughout the final stage, Leao Du Bisse had the best chances. Meanwhile, the rooster only grew at the end of the game. In search of an equaliser, Atlético MG failed to find the net for goalkeeper Breno and the score remained in favor of the home team.

Both teams return to the field in midweek, to play the 37th round of the Brazilian League. On Wednesday (12/3), Fortaleza hosts Corinthians at Arena Castelao, at 7pm. On the same day, but at 9:30pm, Atlético MG hosts Palmeiras at Arena MRF.
