
At least four members of Syria’s security forces were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Idlib province in the northwest of the country, authorities set up after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime more than a year ago confirmed.
The Syrian Interior Ministry said in a statement posted on its Telegram account that a fifth agent was injured in the attack on a patrol near the town of Maaret al Numan in the southern part of the province.
“Specialized security forces are conducting extensive search operations in the area to locate those involved in the attack,” he said, expressing condolences to the families.
There is currently no claim of responsibility for the attack, which took place after the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian in an ambush in Homs province (center). The US Central Command (CENTCOM) attributes this to the jihadist group “Islamic State”.
