The French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, failed in his attempt to agree on the Assembly’s proposed hypotheses for 2026. The mixed commission, made up of 7 representatives and 7 senators and which was to agree on this point before the final version of the document, did not reach an agreement. Francia thus returns to the abyss of the political crisis, from which it has been trying to emerge for a year.
The parliamentarians did not see their differences worse than at the start of the meeting. This supposes that the law of hypotheses cannot be approved in the areas which mark the Constitution. The martes that came were the final deadline for the Assembly to vote on the final document. The law is expected to be promulgated on December 31.
After weeks of negotiations, trying to reach agreements with the different political groups, Lecornu will now have to move on to the project of presenting this same thing with a special law that allows ensuring the functioning of the State, recovering taxes and paying employees’ salaries.
“The Government takes note of the failure of the joint commission formed by representatives and senators, without the Government. I thank all the representatives of all the groups who worked to seek, in good faith, a reasonable compromise, as happened with the takeover of social security, which was definitively approved last March. I am sorry, but there is a lack of will on the part of certain representatives to reach an agreement”, wrote Lecornu on the social network X.
The Prime Minister will meet political party leaders next month to “consult the next steps to protect the French and seek a solution”.
