The Paris industrial tribunal on Tuesday ordered Paris Saint-Germain to pay Kylian Mbappé 60 million euros ($70.6 million) in unpaid salaries and bonuses, thus putting a partial end to one of the most violent conflicts in French football.
The decision was taken after months of legal wrangling, after the French striker took PSG to court over income he claimed had been withheld for April, May and June 2024, shortly before leaving the club to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
“We are satisfied with the decision. This is what we can expect when salaries are not paid,” said Mbappé’s lawyer, Frédérique Cassereau.
The court found that PSG had not paid three months of Mbappé’s salary, an ethics bonus and a signing bonus due under his employment contract.
These sums were recognized as due by two judgments of the French Professional Football League (LFP) in September and October 2024, and the judges indicated that PSG had not presented any written agreement demonstrating that Mbappé had waived his right.
