From “big” soul to pop temple: Lineker rewrites youth in Kajo

Lineker has been recognized by critics for her soul and black musical sound, but the album “Caju” marked a conscious break with that kind of rigidity. She felt that the industry and the public put her in a place that did not suit her desire to experiment.

The singer revealed that the search for pleasure was central to the production of “Caju”: “I’m making this album because I have the impression that I was put in a polite place very early on.” “People look at me and treat me like a lady, but I’m a transvestite and I’m 29. I just want to have fun.”

The answer to this search for freedom is a sonic collection album that brings together a range of pop music subgenres. “Caju” explores elements of disco, house, temple and arocha, demonstrating Liniker’s ability to be experimental and accessible at the same time.

This fluidity reflects his family roots: his mother, a samba rock dance teacher, and his accordion-playing grandfather. Lineker has already expressed her interest in practicing samba or being invited to a temple project, noting the importance of the genre in the history of black music.

Lineker has always moved between worlds, but now he organizes them all into an album that has won three Grammy Awards and more than 160 million plays.
