Gabriel Masfurroll died this Saturday at the age of 72 following a long illness, as reported by FC Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), two institutions in which the health sector businessman collaborated. … The sports club indicated, in a comment on X, that it regretted his death and expressed “its most sincere condolences to the family and friends”. Masfurroll was vice-president of Barça between 2000 and 2003 and president of the UAB Social Council between 2014 and 2022.

Masfurroll was, in 1997, the creator of the USP Hospitales private network, and in 2010 he also created Wings 4 Business, a health investment, consulting and advisory platform, as UAB recalled after learning of his death. He has also worked in multinational healthcare companies and was a member of the American Hospital Association and the International Hospital Federation.
Beyond the hospital sector, Masfurroll has advised companies in various sectors and was president of Europe’s 500 (organization which brings together the 500 main European companies), member of the Economic Circle, honorary member of the Mediterranean Forum and member of the advisory board of the employers’ association Fomento del Trabajo. In general, he was involved in entrepreneurial initiatives, as recalled by the UAB and in 2008 he obtained the Cross of Sant Jordi from the Generalitat of Catalonia.
He was also linked to sports, especially football and the Olympics. In addition to having been vice-president of Barça in a short time and having founded the club, He worked in support of the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid. And he has written several books, such as: “Learning from the best” (Planeta), “Letters to Álex through a life” (Plataforma Editorial), “Learning to be a grandfather” (Ediciones B) and “Emprenedor, persegueix els teus somnis” (Edebé).
