The President of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, stated that he was available to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) to provide information on the Banco Master case.
The statement came after Minister Dias Toffoli this week ordered a series of hearings into the matter, including that of central bank directors.
According to Galípolo, the Central Bank collaborated in investigations carried out by other bodies. He indicated that the institution “has already provided the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Police” with information relating to the case since the beginning of the process.
The BC president said that all stages of the monetary authority’s action were recorded. According to him, “each action was carried out, each meeting, each exchange of messages, each communication, all of this is duly documented.”
Galípolo said that he and the Central Bank as an institution were available to collaborate with the Supreme Court. “As president, I am obviously available to the Supreme Court to be able to provide all (the data),” he said.
Galípolo said the conduct of the process follows British Columbia’s experience in similar cases, emphasizing the need for the investigation to be consistent and sustainable over time.
The BC maintained communications with investigators into the Master case after identifying signs of fraud in the figures at the institution, which had asked the authority for permission to be sold to the state-owned BRB. The monetary authority vetoed the sale.
