Last week it was made public that the CSD had brought to the TAD the complaints that Rubén Alcaine, vice-president of Liga F expelled from his post by the majority of clubs, had presented against the president Beatriz Álvarez and the general director, … Pablo Vilches. A file that can lead to the disqualification of both and, therefore, to the forced holding of elections. A scenario that intensifies the hidden civil war that has long been taking place in the offices of Spanish women’s football. There’s a lot of money at stake.
When on June 15, 2021, the CSD and more precisely its board of directors, then chaired by José Manuel Franco, formally approved the professionalization of the first women’s division, the leaders of the Association of Women’s Football Clubs took over and distributed the management positions of League F. They wanted the president to be Pablo Vilches, the vice-president Rubén Alcaine and the general management to go to Pedro Malabia.
But they found an obstacle: the presidency had to go to a woman by imposition. Beatriz Álvarez, who represented her club, Oviedo Moderno, at the Club Association, was chosen. She knew women’s football and had also held positions of political responsibility (linked to the PSOE). More specifically, General Director of Sports of the Principality of Asturias and member of the Board of Directors of the CSD as representative of the autonomous communities.
Now, with Alcaine out of action and perhaps also Álvarez and Vilches, Pedro Malabia believes he has a clear path to finally become CEO of Liga F with his “sister” Lola Romero as president. And in Valdebebas’ offices, strategies have been secretly being prepared for some time to take power away from Javier Tebas in women’s football. And it is for this reason (since Malabia is considered their man) that another candidacy is being prepared, to which the capricious clubs (Real Madrid, Madrid CFF and Real Sociedad) intend to add allies with the figure of Ana Rossell as president.
If she had won, the sports director of Real Madrid would have managed to defeat all her opponents and regain the lost importance in the white club, where she had to interpret that she was working for and for the cause. But what his promoters are not counting on is that he is actually working for the man they intend to overthrow. As she often says, “the impossible just takes a little longer.”
