GDP: IBGE revises government consumption upwards in Q1 and Q2 | Brazil

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reviewed the increase in government consumption in the first and second quarter of this year. The expansion of 1.1% in the first quarter, compared to the same quarter in 2024, extended to 2%. In the case of the second quarter, the increase was revised from 0.4% to 0.9%, also in the annual comparison.

Traditionally, IBGE revises rates of variation in GDP from previous periods, in the third quarter, to incorporate data from annual structural surveys.

This year, according to IBGE, due to the project to change the base year of the accounting system from 2010 to 2021, there has been additional work. A transition period has been established in which publication of the annual series will be temporarily suspended. Therefore, only quarterly series review was performed with approved data series updates.
