Sergio Camargo, honored in a mega-exhibition in the Foyer of the Villa-Lobos Room, at the National Theater. He is remembered above all for his sculpture, for his white reliefs, his cylinders and his shapes which seem to “breathe light”. But did you know that he also wrote poetry, an intimate and lesser-known gesture that revealed the same impulse of investigation present in his three-dimensional work? This little explored side is also highlighted in the exhibition, a creation of Metropolises which continues until March 6, 2026.

Sergio Camargo in DF: the Metropoles documentary reveals behind the scenes of the assembly and interviews the names behind the unique exhibition
The exhibition “É Pau, É Pedra…” was inaugurated on Wednesday (12/10) during an event attended by authorities, guests and art lovers. In addition to his sculptures, the immersion presents poems and phrases by the artist published in the book: Preciosas Vocês Vãs Fundamentalas.
The poems are highlighted in the exhibition
In addition to the sculptural creations of Sergio Camargo
In his poems, Camargo explores rhythm, emptiness, silence and repetition – elements which also mark the structure of his sculptures. His verses functioned almost like conceptual sketches: condensed thoughts, lyrical notes, small verbal architectures that echoed his search for synthesis and formal purity.
As:
“Out of duty to
lead which obliges
I stand up
and I can’t leave him”
Writing, for him, was a space for experimentation. Just as in sculpture, Camargo saw poetry as a way of organizing the world: each word was a block, a pause, an interval. Each image, a volume to shape.
This poetic production reveals an artist who thought about art in a broader way, not only in the physical gesture of sculpture, but also in the construction of a sensitive thought, which took shape both in the material and in the language.
The exhibition is an unprecedented event for DF Metropolises
The exhibition reinforces the commitment of Metropolises to boost fashion, sport, music and the entire Brazilian cultural scene. And the stage chosen for this new movement was the emblematic stage: the Foyer of the Villa-Lobos Hall, at the Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro.
The exhibition, free and open to the public from December 10, runs until March 6 and invites visitors to discover art in a space that recently received the award Metropolises paraded — event that transformed the Federal District into the center of national fashion, bringing together local talent, names from São Paulo and Rio, as well as models and designers who shape the Brazilian industry.
