A delegation of around twenty deputies from the AfD (Alternative for Germany), a German far-right party, will travel to the United States this Thursday (12/11) to meet representatives of the Republican Party and “other political partners”, the party announced on Wednesday (12/10).
The AfD is Germany’s main opposition party and had already received support from Trump’s allies in the country’s last parliamentary elections. “The AfD is fighting, alongside its international friends, for a conservative revival in North America and Europe,” said MP Markus Frohnmaier, responsible for foreign policy in the parliamentary group that will represent the delegation in Washington.

The group going to the United States is made up of 20 deputies from the Bundestag (the lower house of Parliament), regional states (Länder) and the European Parliament. According to Frohnmaier, the AfD “builds strong partnerships with forces that defend national sovereignty, cultural identity and realistic security and immigration policy.”
In New York, German deputies will also participate in a gala evening for a particularly radical young republican association. According to the German newspaper Bild Zeitung, the trip for Bundestag deputies alone, financed by Parliament, will cost nearly 60,000 euros.
During the German election campaign, US Vice President JD Vance met in Munich with the party’s candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, after encouraging other German parties to stop “demonizing the AfD” when they attended the Munich Security Conference in February.
Notice
Germany, which has been one of the United States’ most loyal allies since the end of World War II, criticizes the American president’s positions. Conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz judged on Tuesday (10) certain elements of Donald Trump’s security strategy “unacceptable” from a European point of view.
Germany’s far-right AfD party welcomed the document, which anticipates the end of European civilization, resulting from, among other factors, lack of control over immigration.
For Knut Abraham, Christian Democratic member of the Bundestag and former German diplomat in Washington, “the Republicans and the AfD are working towards the destruction of Europe”, and “the alliance between the AfD and the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement around Trump is diabolical”.
