Toledo’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2031 is added new institutional support with the adherence of Globalcaja to the manifesto that promotes this project. The president of the entity, Mariano León, and the mayor of the city, Carlos Velázquez, … were signed during an event organized in the San Clemente Cultural Center the protocol which formalizes this support.
The proposal that Toledo obtain this designation is presented as a goal that transcends the municipal level and is interpreted as a aspiration shared by all of Castile-La Mancha. Within this framework is the commitment of Globalcaja, which defines itself as an entity specially linked to culture and territory, which leads it to join an alliance developed to consolidate the role of the regional capital as a European cultural reference. The application is based on the heritage, historical richness and creative diversity that characterize a city. which unites tradition and avant-garde.
During the signing, Mariano León emphasized that “A rich historical and cultural heritage converges in Toledoand a commitment to contemporary creation, which make the city a magnificent candidate to become a European reference.
Globalcaja considers culture as an engine of developmentwhich justifies its support for the declaration of Toledo as European Capital of Culture, an initiative which already promotes projection of the city in the European context as well as increasing its international visibility and strengthening the city’s capacity to generate new alliances at the continental level, with an impact that reaches sectors such as tourism.

The event took place in the presence of the cultural advisor, Ana Pérez of the director of the application, Emilio Martinezand of Jesus Carroblescoordinator of the commission in charge of the project and president of the Royal Foundation of Toledo. The support of the financial institution itself was also joined by the Globalcaja HXXII Foundationwhich formalized its membership with the signature of its president, Rafael Torres.
