With 29.9 billion reais in investments, the Goiás government has promoted, over the last seven years, the greatest transformation ever recorded in the field of public health.
Between 2019 and 2025, applied resources practically doubled from R$2.6 billion to approximately R$5.7 billion per year, allowing the expansion of the hospital network, the regionalization of care and the significant expansion of access to very complex services throughout the state.
The state health network increased from 17 to 25 hospitals, while six polyclinics began serving the population in different regions.
The most significant progress took place in intensive care: intensive care beds tripled, from 267 to 848 units. What was previously concentrated in just three municipalities now reaches 24 cities, ensuring coverage in all health macro-regions and significantly reducing patient travel.
The regionalization of the service made it possible to provide specialized services in 23 municipalities, decentralizing assistance and strengthening the network internally.
Quality service
New public hospitals were established in strategic cities, increasing service capacity in areas such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and specialties.
A reference oncology complex was also delivered, equipped with a modern structure, operational 24 hours a day and offering highly complex examinations, treatments and procedures via the Unified Health System (SUS).
Regional polyclinics began to play a fundamental role in this new model, offering consultations in more than 20 specialties and examinations such as tomography, mammography, radiography and ophthalmological care.
Public hospitals were established at strategic points, increasing the provision of care in medical clinics, doctors’ offices, pediatrics, obstetrics and various specialties.
With investments of approximately 70 million reais, these units serve thousands of people and relieve hospitals of medium and high complexity, ensuring greater agility and efficiency in healthcare.
In addition to expanding the network, Goiás exceeded the constitutional minimum of 12% investment of resources in health, reaching more than 15% of state revenue allocated to the sector.
This budgetary effort resulted in an increase in investments of 148% compared to 2018 and has a direct impact on the lives of 7.2 million people in Goiás, who today have more hospitals, regionalized care, intensive care units closer to home and a more modern, accessible and efficient health structure throughout the state.
