The Spanish government has said it “regrets” the announcement of the new sanctions imposed by the United States against two judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), claiming that these measures represent “a new attack” on its “independence, integrity and impartiality” and “seriously” affect the work of this body.
This court, as Foreign Affairs defended in a statement, “plays an indispensable role in ensuring accountability for the most serious crimes against humanity and contributing to reparations for victims.”
“Spain reiterates its full support and expresses its full solidarity with the judges, prosecutors and all the staff affected by these decisions,” he defended.
In this context, the Government has confirmed that it will continue to “fully comply with its obligations under the Rome Statute and international law, while respecting and ensuring the full exercise of jurisdiction” of the CFI.
The United States government imposed sanctions on two International Criminal Court (ICC) judges on Thursday, saying they “engaged in efforts to investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute Israelis without Israel’s permission,” referring to an investigation into alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
