Almost 50 hours after the storm that hit the cities of Greater São Paulo, the metropolitan region still has 835 thousand properties in the dark, according to the bulletin published by the Enel dealership at 6 a.m. this Friday (12).
According to the company’s survey, the capital São Paulo has 589,000 addresses without electricity, putting it at the top of cities in Enel’s concession area that are still in the dark.
In percentage terms, Juquitiba, Itapecerica da Serra, Taboão da Serra and Embu das Artes are the towns with the highest number of houses still without electricity.
In Juquitiba, 39% of properties are without electricity. In Itapecerica da Serra, 33% of the city’s addresses are in the dark, making a total of 22.4 thousand properties.
On Wednesday morning (10), winds hit the capital and the metropolitan region with gusts of 96 km/h. The lack of energy affects essential services, such as traffic lights, water supply and urban mobility.
The concessionaire informed that there is no deadline to normalize 100% of the service and, in a note sent to g1 on Thursday (11) at 3 p.m., the concessionaire informed that, “in some places the restoration is more complex, since it involves the complete reconstruction of the network, with the replacement of poles, transformers and, sometimes, the rerouting of kilometers of cables”.
The company also justified vehicle-filled yards seen in three city neighborhoods by saying the cars belonged to crews working on different shifts.
On its website, Enel blamed the power outage on strong winds:
“Our concession area was affected by an extratropical cyclone and a historic wind storm, according to Inmet, which lasted approximately 12 hours this Wednesday,” specifies an extract from the press release. “Strong gusts of up to 98 km/h toppled trees and threw branches and other objects into the power grid.”
According to Enel’s website, all 24 municipalities served by the company were hit by strong winds on Wednesday and experienced power outages. See what it is below:
