Baidek, world champion Libertadores and Clubs with Imortal, is a friend of the commander and serves as an intermediary in the negotiations
The wait is over! The new Grêmio coach, Luis Castro, arrived in Porto Alegre, in the early hours of this Sunday (21). The first Portuguese commander in Immortal’s history arrived alongside one of his assistants, Vítor Severino. Hundreds of supporters were present at Salgado Filho airport and cheered the commander, shouting his name.
Indeed, Antônio Dutra Junior and Juliano Franczak, vice-presidents of the new management of the Tricolor Gaucho, also honored the arrival of Portuguese professionals. The official presentation of Luis Castro is scheduled for this Monday (22). In his first public appearance after the agreement with Grêmio, the commander defined the possibility of training the Immortal as a privilege.
Another illustrious character in the history of Immortal who was present when the coach arrived was
Baidek, club idol and friend of the Portuguese professional. The former defender, who had success with the Tricolor Rio Grande do Sul, was in fact an intermediary in the negotiations. Afterwards, the former player highlighted the skill his friend demonstrated through his previous work.
“The expectations are very good. He has the ability and a great desire to do an excellent job,” explained the Libertadores and 1983 world champion.
Presentation and immersion group at Grêmio
Next week the coach and his assistant Vítor Severino will have a program in which they will visit the facilities of the gaúcho Tricolor. Furthermore, Luis Castro’s press conference is scheduled for this Monday (22) at 1 p.m., at the Grêmio Arena auditorium. After these commitments, the two return to Portugal to celebrate the end of year holidays.
The commander’s project at Imortal begins concretely on January 2, when he will be in Brazil again with his entire technical committee. Besides Vítor Severino, another assistant will also work with him at Grêmio, Pedro Mané. Performance analyst Nuno Baptista, physical trainer Nuno Cerdeira and goalkeeping coach Daniel Correia complete the technical team. Moreover, the new commission contract will initially be valid until the end of 2027.
Notable career moments
It is worth remembering that Luis Castro arrives at the Tricolor Rio Grande do Sul after a period in which he was free on the market. Before that, the coach was in charge of Al-Wasl of the United Arab Emirates, but his tenure ended in November. The Portuguese professional already has experience in Brazilian football.
After all, he captained Botafogo between 2022 and 2023. He has accumulated 79 matches, 42 wins, 15 draws and 22 defeats. In a previous period, the coach was director of Porto’s youth categories. From this experience, he began to prioritize the use and development of promises.
