Guarulhos Aeromóvel begins work with airport employees

Aeromóvel de Guarulhos, which will connect the 13-Jade line of the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) to the departure and arrival terminals of São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area, began work with guest passengers on Wednesday (3/12).

Guest passengers, initially, are employees of the airport itself. Since October 1, the system has begun simulating operation without passengers, on a partial basis for eight hours a day, according to the AeroGru union, which is responsible for the work.

“The entry into operation is carried out in phases, in accordance with the recommendations of the certifying body and international best practices for automated passenger transportation systems in large airports. This model ensures that all operations are monitored and adjusted in a safe, gradual and controlled manner, before full operation,” the AeroGru union said in a note.

How will the Guarulhos Aeromóvel plane work?

  • Currently, transportation is provided by free buses departing from Aeroporto-Guarulhos station on the CPTM 13-Jade line and taking about 10 minutes to the nearest station, forcing passengers to walk up and down escalators, often carrying suitcases.
  • Guarulhos Aeromóvel will have a station at each airport departure station and travel time should drop to around six minutes along the 2.7 km route. The maximum waiting time should also be six minutes.
  • There will be two operational vehicles and one backup vehicle, with a capacity of up to 200 people per trip. In total, the People Carrier is expected to carry about 4,000 passengers per hour, 2,000 in each direction.
  • The monorail will be fully automated and will therefore not have drivers, like the metropolitan trains in São Paulo, for example.
