Finance Minister Fernando Haddad confirmed to the Panel that he intends to leave his post in early 2026.
“It should be a little before March,” he said, during his participation in the inauguration of SBT News, in São Paulo, last Friday (12). In good spirits, he sang part of a well-known march that says: “oh, oh, oh, oh, the time is coming…”.
In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Haddad had already indicated that he would have to leave office to help Lula’s re-election, whether by coordinating his campaign or formulating the government program.
Haddad refuses to be a candidate for governor of São Paulo or for the Senate, as the PT wishes. But he could be convinced if there was a direct appeal from Lula. If he runs for office, the minister will have to resign at the beginning of April.
The most likely candidate to replace him is the current executive secretary of the ministry, Dario Durigan.
