The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, greeted the National Congress in a speech at the ministerial meeting this Wednesday (17/12) and thanked the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for approving the economic measures dealt with in the Chambers.
The meeting with the entire government team, which takes place at the Official Residence of Granja do Torto, takes place in the presence of government leaders José Guimarães (Chamber), Jaques Wagner (Senate) and Randolfe Rodrigues (Congress).
“Without the Legislative Assembly and the work these leaders have done to make this project a reality, we would not be able to get this far,” the minister said.
Haddad also downplayed tensions between the powers, amid frictions between Planalto and Presidents Davi Alcolumbre, of the Senate, and Hugo Motta, of the House, which intensified at the end of the year.

“It is natural that there are tensions between the powers, that there are differences, that we fight for more or less, that we find a happy medium, that we negotiate, that we sit down at the negotiating table,” underlined the head of Finance. “All the crucial projects for the country that have been presented have been guided by the presidents, by the leaders and have been appreciated in one way or another by the parliamentarians,” he added.
Government assessment
The ministerial meeting aims to take stock of the third year of government and present the orientations for next year. Before Haddad, President Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, spoke.
In his presentation, the head of the Treasury highlighted economic data, such as the drop in the unemployment and poverty rate in the country. He also spoke of the “legacy” left by previous governments.
“The president inherited hell in the fiscal area after 7 years of right-wing and far-right governments. They present themselves as champions of fiscal responsibility, just take the figures from 7 years. It has nothing to do with one thing or another,” he stressed.
