Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Thursday that the National Treasury will only be able to make a contribution to Correios within financial rules and after prior approval of the state-owned company’s restructuring plan. He stressed that there will be no loans, guarantees, or any form of support until the plan is completed and analyzed by the economic team.
— We will not contribute without an approved recovery plan. No loan, no support, no guarantee. It all depends on the company’s restructuring plan — said the minister.
In response to a question about whether a direct contribution is the most likely solution, in light of the rejection of the first proposal submitted by Curios to the Treasury, Haddad replied:
– There may be. Could it be. The treasury is studying. Let’s look at all the variables.
He stressed that any measure – loan, guarantee or contribution – must respect financial rules.
-If there is a contribution, it will be within the rules. It’s not outside the norm. Within the rules – said the Minister when he explained that the exclusion of R$10 billion from the financial target for SOEs was a precautionary measure, in case the government needed to make contributions to the Post Office.
During the conversation with reporters, the Minister spoke about the meeting he had with the US Chargé d’Affaires Gabriel Escobar. The talk dealt with cooperation between countries to investigate funds and financial operations related to money laundering.
The finance chief stated that the United States would present a partnership proposal to combat organized crime, and also said that he saw “enthusiasm” in Escobar.
– He had to prepare a response to the Brazilian provocation, which he considered very feasible. He spoke with some enthusiasm about the terms that were offered, he said.
In response to a question about US tariffs imposed on Brazilian products, the minister informed that this is an issue that “will eventually be resolved.”
– I think we are gradually overcoming this misunderstanding.
