The terrorist organization Hamas announced this on Sunday The last body of a hostage is handed over to Israel via the International Committee of the Red Cross who remained in Gaza under the ceasefire agreement.
In its statement, the Palestinian group said the remains of the last prisoner –that of Israeli soldier Ran Gvili– were found today in the north of the strip.
Once the army receives the coffin from the Red Cross, Israeli authorities confirm that the remains belong to Gvili and Hamas will have already handed over the 28 dead hostages remaining in Gaza since the attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023, in which 1,200 people died and 251 were kidnapped.
The return of these bodies was one of the obligations that Hamas had to fulfill in this first phase of the ceasefire agreement sponsored by the United States and which came into force on October 10.
It took Hamas almost two months to deliver one by one the remains of these prisoners, which, as they have emphasized, is due to the problems they faced when they found them among the tons of rubble caused by the Israeli bombings.
In addition, Hamas also complained about the lack of heavy machinery to carry out these tasks and the fact that Israel killed many of the commanders responsible for guarding and burying these bodies.
However, the Israeli government has accused Hamas of delaying the delivery of bodies in order to avoid the second phase of the negotiations, which, among other things, involves the disarmament of the militia.
In this sense, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned this Sunday that the arrival of this second phase is imminent and that they have “an overwhelming challenge before them: the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.”
