The director of the morgue at Harvard University Medical School in the United States was sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing human remains to sell them, a sentence that extends to his wife, who was sentenced to a year in prison.
The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that the man, identified as Cedric Lodge, 58, pleaded guilty to stealing the remains, which included organs, skin, limbs, faces and even heads.
These events occurred between 2018 and 2020, according to investigations, and Lodge was fired in May 2023. “This conviction is another step in ensuring that these types of acts are brought to justice,” said Wayne A. Jacobs, who heads the FBI’s Philadelphia office.
Investigations indicate that Lodge and his wife, Denise, removed human remains from the college, located near the city of Boston, and moved them to their home in Goffstown, New Hampshire, as well as other areas of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, without permission from the donors or their families.
