Last Sunday, in Badalona, people prevented 15 other people from spending a night inside a parish and with a hot meal. As I read it, I remembered my grandparents, all migrants who today would be considered illegal. Just 87 years ago, in a few weeks, almost half a million Spaniards crossed the border into France, including one of my grandparents. Thousands of people like him found themselves crammed into concentration camps in the south of France, sleeping rough on beaches battered by wind and cold, defecating in ditches dug in the sand and decimated by disease. A little later, my father-in-law was one of the many Spanish economic migrants. In his case, poor and hungry, he fled to Argentina. Not so long ago we were the migrants; now it’s others. Always and everywhere, there have been, there are and there will be politicians without shame or memory who use them to advance. And also, people who forget that the place and time in which we are born is a matter of luck and that luck, as we know, can change.

The PSOE debacle
What was going to happen in the regional elections in Extremadura was predicted: the victory of the PP with a setback in favor of Vox and the resounding failure of the PSOE. Gallardo, the socialist leader, declared that Guardiola, the election winner, had failed, which was a sad consolation for his big defeat. I suspect that in February, during the regional elections in Aragon, the same thing will happen. The trend to the right is unstoppable. Even Pilar Alegría won’t stop him.

Masculinized leadership
I work in a traditional sector, but one that is both stable and key to society: the insurance company. It still surprises me that the decision-making spaces of large insurance companies continue to be predominantly occupied by men. I believe it is not a question of capacity, but of leadership models that have remained largely intact over time and have not evolved at the same pace as society. I would like this sector to evolve towards a more visible female presence in positions of power, because it is not a question of a lack of talent, but rather a lack of opportunities. Talent exists, but it does not always reach the spaces where decisions are made.

Christmas wishes
We live so fast that before we experience what we desire, it already seems to disappear. In the solitude of a Sunday afternoon, at 48 years old, I stop in front of the Christmas space occupied by my tree and I imagine the possibility of returning to this era of small truths and good lights, to this era banished by clocks and calendars. Sometimes it happens unexpectedly, you just have to stop and look at that imperturbable ball hanging for no reason, it’s always there. Try it, I wish you a good trip, memory is like a sphere that deconstructs and creates at the same time.
