Federal MP Bia Kicis (PL-DF) reacted to Havaianas’ end-of-year advertisement featuring award-winning actress Fernanda Torres. The ad became controversial on social media because of the use, at the beginning of the text, of a phrase that, for many, gave a double meaning to the spot: “I don’t want you to start the year off on the right foot,” Fernanda Torres says at the beginning of the clip.
Bia Kicis, MP for the Liberal Party in DF, recorded a video reacting to the ad and throwing a pair of the brand’s flip-flops in the trash. “If Havaianas doesn’t want us, we don’t want Havaianas either,” the parliamentarian said.

The same action of Bia Kicis was reproduced by Eduardo Bolsonaro, Nikolas Ferreira and other names of the Brazilian right. Right-wing politicians began to lead a boycott movement against the Havaianas brand.
Neither Havainas nor actress Fernanda Torres have commented on the controversy generated by the advertisement. However, the brand removed the video from Instagram’s main feed.
