For many, end-of-year celebrations symbolize a period of celebration and renewal for the beginning of a new cycle. However, a portion of the population suffers from stress, physical and mental exhaustion and feelings of frustration, mainly due to the pressure to buy gifts, organize celebrations and manage expenses. This leads to what many call desembrite.

Desembrittitis and end-of-year syndrome

For experts, this behavior has a name: it’s known as desembrite syndrome. This period raises concern among health professionals because it represents a rise in cases of seeking psychological help.

According to the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), stress is greater in December than in other months of the year. Of the 678 people interviewed, aged between 25 and 55, 75% were more nervous, 70% were more anxious, 80% felt tension in their bodies, and 38% had trouble sleeping.

The end of the year brings reflections

Furthermore, according to an American Heart Association poll, 79% of people say this holiday season they are so focused on creating special moments for others that they forget about themselves, and 71% say that, every holiday season, they regret not taking time to relax and enjoy.
