The It was quiet by the sea in Mar del Plata in the afternoon until the shouting broke out between parked cars and grassland. A neighbor saw two men fighting with a wheel of a Renault Captur and loading it into a gray Fiat Palio. There were warnings, racing and honking.
Minutes later 2:30 p.m. On Thursday the Palio was already turning at full speed between Oneglia and Darregueira on the island of Sardinia at 2 p.m. bit the sand, climbed onto the sidewalk, spooked a horse and completely lost control. It rolled three and a half times before stopping in front of the gate of a house, overturning and being wrecked.
The driver was thrown out in the middle of the curve and fell onto the grass and in a scene as shocking as it was unusual, he got up and walked away. His companion, who had remained in the car, got out independently and fled in another direction.
According to witness accounts collected in the Faro Norte neighborhood, the scene began on Waikiki Beach.: after he saw two people stealing a wheel from a truckNeighbors began screaming and chasing them through the city’s inner streets.
The escape route was recorded by surveillance cameras and shared with the neighborhood group MDP thefts. The Fiat Palio Weekend accelerated through narrow passages until a poor maneuver caused it to roll over and spin, causing the car to crash into a gate and a tree. Residents approached from the sidewalk opposite, concerned about the condition of the residents, but both had already left the area.
The sequence also had an additional episode: A few minutes later a Ford Fiesta appeared, from which a man emerged, who, according to neighbors, picked up a bike that had been left on the street, approached the interior of the overturned vehicle, stole a wallet and drove away with the items. There is doubt among those who witnessed the scene whether it was an opportunist who took advantage of the accident or one of the bike thieves themselves, who returned briefly to search for his prey or to remove objects that could incriminate him.

In the subsequent operation, the Flagranzia patrol command and UFIJ intervened in the investigation. The driver of the Palio was identified as Diego Sebastián Veliz, an Argentine citizen, unemployed, 39 years old, with an address in 4400 Lynch.
He was arrested and taken to Batán Punishment Unit 44 while the vehicle was confiscated for evaluation. The case was classified as an unlawful investigation. The other suspect remains at large.
On the coast, the episode adds to recurring warnings from residents and tourists about items being stolen from vehicles parked near the beach.
