A shooting was reported on the Brown University campus this Saturdayan Ivy League institution based in the upstate city of Providence Rhode Island, USA.
In an emergency alert, the university reported a situation involving a active shooter near the Barus and Holley building, indicating that both Brown Police and Providence Police responded to the scene.
Providence Police made the announcement via their official account on X that “several people” had been shot near Brown University and confirmed the investigation was ongoing.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, Also reported that the FBI was at the crime scene. “God bless the victims and the families of the victims!” he wrote in a message posted on his platform Truth Social.
Brown University urged people to stay safe in its statement, asking them to close their doors, silence their phones and stay out of sight until further notice.
The university is home to nearly 11,000 students at its main campus near the city of Boston.

The situation caused confusion as the university initially informed the community that a suspect had been arrested. However, about an hour later, the school administration corrected its report and confirmed: “Police have no suspects in custody and are continuing to search for the suspect or suspects.”
Authorities did not confirm whether there were any injuries or fatalities as a result of the incident at the time of information closure. The university noted that “emergency medical services are on site.”in coordination with “multiple law enforcement agencies on site.”
The first emergency notice has been published 5:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. GMT)resulting in the immediate implementation of campus safety protocols. In the message sent to students, the university asked them to “close the doors, silence the phones and remain hidden until further notice,” and reiterated safety instructions: “RUN if in the affected area, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT as a last resort, take action to protect yourself.”

The incident occurred near the Barus & Holley buildinga seven-story building that houses the Engineering school and the Department of Physics from the university. According to the institutional website, 117 laboratories, 150 offices, 15 classrooms and 29 laboratories operate in this building. Regarding the size of the university, the university itself stated that it has about 7,300 undergraduate students and just over 3,000 graduate students.
When asked by the press, Kristy DosReis, the city’s public information director, admitted this “Officers are still gathering information from the active scene.”.
Images broadcast from the chain cnn They showed students sheltering together in classrooms in one of the campus buildings, some talking on phones, as they watched from the windows as the increasing presence of emergency vehicles, firefighters and police patrols outside.
Witnesses told the local press that they saw more than a dozen emergency vehicles racing to the scene. They said medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on at least one person and transported two others on stretchers.
