This week marks the last days in which the residents of our region can take part in the toy drive, which is being carried out for the twentieth year in a row under the motto “No boy without Santa Claus” by the organization La Plata Solidaria.
As described in previous editions, in the first phase those responsible for promoting this campaign invited companies, institutions and schools to act as reception centers and thus become part of this solidarity initiative.
It has been pointed out several times in this column that the positive responses to emergencies faced by people of all ages – including the small patients of the children’s hospital, many of whom are far from their families – characterize the residents of the region, who are always ready not only to contribute but, above all, to donate their time to accompany those in need.
By the way, it is appropriate to mention all the campaigns that various entities in the region carry out year after year on Christmas, New Year and Epiphany to collect food, toys, medicine, books, school supplies and all kinds of relief goods for the benefit of children and people of all ages who have the least.
It is known that many needy people receive help of various kinds and support throughout the year from institutions in which permanent volunteers participate, and it is certain that these days it will once again be the disadvantaged children who will deserve the attention and affection of many people.
It is also desirable to emphasize the auspicious fact that it is incumbent on an organization to prevent homeless people from participating in these celebrations by bringing them together at a common table where volunteers will also be present.
Likewise, Catholic communities in La Plata and temples of other religions receive donations for the most vulnerable people.
It is also clear that there are currently many societal needs of all kinds that also deserve special treatment, in situations that exceed the capabilities of those experiencing these deficiencies and that require quick and effective solutions.
Of course, this does not prevent us from calling for support for the solidarity campaigns that are being carried out today in favor of so many people who suffer from hardships and various problems, including health disorders, and who do not have the resources of their own to meet their basic needs and who are punished by misfortune and the material impossibility of overcoming, at least quickly, the helplessness in which they find themselves.
