Honda takes a major step toward truly inclusive mobility with the release of UNI-ONE, its hands-free personal mobility device. After surprising the world at the Japan Mobility Show 2024 and the SXSW festival in Austin with its visionary proposal, … Honda keeps its promise because the UNI-ONE is already a commercial reality.
Designed to move naturally and freely, the UNI-ONE arrived on the Japanese market in September 2025, initially aimed at corporate customers. Its philosophy is simple but powerful: to offer “borderless mobility”, designed to improve the autonomy and comfort of people once they arrive at their destination.
The ideal scenario? Spaces such as airports, theme parks, shopping malls or even offices. Places where traveling long distances can be an effort, especially for the elderly, workers or visitors with reduced mobility.
UNI-ONE
Thanks to its self-balancing technology derived from the ASIMO robot and its omnidirectional traction system Honda Omni Traction Drive (HOT), the UNI-ONE allows you to move seated, with both hands free and with surprising fluidity, as if the user was “walking on wheels”.
Its official certification as a “small mobility vehicle” even allows its use in limited public spaces in Japan. This is literally one more step towards integrating personal mobility into everyday urban life.
Thus, Honda’s goal is clear: to reduce the physical load of movement. The UNI-ONE relieves stress on the legs and back, offering a comfortable alternative to those who until now had their outings or daily activities limited. Imagine walking through an airport with luggage, exploring a museum without getting tired, or moving around a large office without losing your rhythm. With a maximum speed of 6 km/h, the UNI-ONE combines safety, stability and pleasure, always at a height similar to that of pedestrians to maintain human connection and visual communication.
And UNI-ONE’s first destination will be Harmonyland, Sanrio’s character theme park in Oita, Japan. There, visitors of all ages will be able to move comfortably and enjoy the experience without worrying about distance or fatigue. A perfect symbol of Honda’s purpose: to democratize the pleasure of moving.
