Santos received, this Monday (12/08), an official proposal from Houston Dynamo, of the United States, for the sale of striker Guilherme. The Major League Soccer (MLS) team offered $1.7 million (around R$9.2 million at current prices) to welcome the 30-year-old in 2026. The offer arrives on the black and white board table at a decisive moment, as it tests a commitment made by management with the athlete himself months ago. Previously, this news was already speculated. However, the name of the American club had not been revealed.
Even if Santos’ technical wish is that their top scorer remains, the political scenario of the negotiation weighs in favor of the North Americans. Midway through the season, Guilherme received further requests to leave Vila Belmiro. At that time, Santos management asked him to refuse the advances and stay to help the team in the home stretch of the Brazilian Championship. In exchange, the top hats promised not to create obstacles to a transfer if a new proposal emerged at the end of the competitions.
Guilherme has a contract with Santos until 2026
Guilherme has a contract with Peixe until the end of 2026. The striker arrived at the club at the end of 2023, the result of a market operation which involved the exchange of midfielder Dodi with Grêmio and the loan of midfielder Soteldo. Santos therefore guaranteed the arrival of the reinforcement without paying a transfer fee at the time. Since then, number 11 has justified the investment by performance on the pitch.
The player finished the season as the team’s top scorer, scoring 14 goals in 2025. In total, he played 94 matches with the black and white jersey and scored 27 goals. His recent career includes a starring role in the 2024 Serie B title and top scorer in the 2025 Campeonato Paulista. However, despite the numbers, Guilherme had a love-hate relationship with fans. According to Santos fans, the striker was careless with his shots and took little part in the match.
With this in mind, and with the proposal from the Houston Dynamo in hand, the Santos board of directors must decide if it will respect the “word of honor” given to the athlete or if it will try to renegotiate the permanence of one of its main offensive players for next year.
