The National University of Córdoba (UNC) has taken an important step to formalize a new offer linked to a sector that is growing but in which there is still little university training outside of the traditional wine provinces. The Viticulture and Oenology Technician has been recognized by the Supreme Council and will now go through the administrative process before the Ministry of Education to obtain national recognition of the title.
In an interview with After office (Point to Point Radio 90.7), the agronomist Jorge DuttoDean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, celebrated the approval and explained that the degree was “already on its way to the country’s Ministry of Education” for “the final formal procedure.”
Why UNC promotes the race: “The soils of Córdoba are different”
Dutto focused on a specific need of the local market: the expansion of wineries and companies in Córdoba, which often had to rely on specialists trained in other regions. And he made it clear that this was not a criticism, but a productive feature.
“The soils of Córdoba are different, the climatic conditions are completely different and this leads to a different management of crops.“, he said. In this context, he explained that the commitment to a public university makes strategic sense: to accompany a growth that, although expressed in small area projects, multiplies quantitatively.
What will the technology look like and which joints does it involve?
How detailed will the technology be? two year term and it has been designed with a format that seeks rapid employment opportunities and flexible pathways.
One of the keys is working with National University of Cuyowhich already has similar technology: the idea is to facilitate equivalencies and mobility, in addition to adding teachers in certain subjects. “We have worked closely with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of Cuyo… we will have recognition and direct mobilityDutto remarked.
Topics can be deepened by Agrofoods
Until the Ministry of Education officially approves the degree, the faculty cannot open a specific registration for viticulture and enology. But Dutto explained the “bridge” they propose for those who don’t want to waste time using common first-year themes.
“Sign up to Agrofoods, go through the income cycle and general themes, and once we officially approve them, they will be adopted and we will do a direct equivalence there“, he indicated.
A plus: credits, internships and agreements with wineries
The dean also announced that the faculty has switched to a system Creditsdesigned so that the student can take subjects at other universities and then have them recognized here. With this logic, he mentioned opportunities to study in Cuyo and, in the future, at institutions abroad, provided the academic requirements are met.
For the practical part, he said that they are already working on agreements with wineries and on mixed programs: there will be subjects with teachers from Cuyo who come to Córdoba and other intensive courses that could be taken there depending on the cohort.
There were also announcements for training in oenology from the provincial system, such as the technical degree at the Provincial University of Córdoba (UPC), which is scheduled to start in 2026. UNC’s commitment, on the other hand, is anchored in its bachelor’s program in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and is now moving forward in the area of national validation of the degree.
