Jair Bolsonaro’s party, the Liberal Party, will directly benefit from the STF’s decision to preventively arrest the current president of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerg), Rodrigo Basilar (Uníao Brasil).
The immediate benefit to the party will be assuming the leadership of Allerg. In the same arrest decision, STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes also ordered the dismissal of Basselar as president of the association.

As a result, the person who will lead Allerg will be state Rep. Guilherme Delaroli (RJ), the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Delaroli is linked to federal MP Altino Cortés, president of the PL state in Rio.
A retired soldier from the Rio Military Police, the new president of Allerg comes from a family of politicians. He is the son of former Councilor José Delaroli (PL) and brother of the current mayor of Itaborai (RJ), Marcelo Delaroli (PL).
Prison reduces the influence of the limp boss
Another medium- and long-term benefit for the Liberal Party is reducing Basilar’s influence in Rio de Janeiro politics. The Alerj president was on a collision course with Governor Claudio Castro, a PL.
The relationship between the two was shaken in July, when Bacelar temporarily took over Rio’s government and immediately fired the then Secretary of State for Transport, Washington Reyes.
Behind the scenes, the governor claimed that the president of Alerg fired Imidipista without consulting him first, hours after Castro traveled abroad and left the leadership of the state, on a temporary basis, to Bacellar.
Upon his return to Rio, the governor attempted to reappoint Reyes, but was pressured by the Assembly president to retain his resignation. To this end, Bacellar began threatening Castro with opening impeachment proceedings.
The impeachment incident, as the article mentioned earlier, also led to the dismissal of the Bolsonaro de Baselar clan, even after the deputy was included as the candidate of the former president of the government of Rio in 2026.
