An Argentine family needs monthly income of more than $3,624,000 be located within the 10% of households with the highest purchasing power of the country, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). The threshold corresponds to the third quarter of 2025 and results from the survey carried out in the 31 largest urban agglomerations.
This income marks the entrance to the tenth decile, the segment that concentrates the richest households in the distribution pyramid. Within this group Family income ranges from this lower limit to figures of $150 million per month, with an average income of $5,597,559.
Overall it is top decile It includes 1,015,153 households, representing 10% of the total, and 3,539,176 individuals, representing 11.9% of the surveyed population. The internal breadth of the segment is remarkable: families that barely exceed the minimum limit coexist with others whose income increases a hundredfold.
The distance to the rest of the households
A comparison with the other income classes makes this clear existing inequalities. The ninth decile, directly below, groups households with an income of between $2,650,000 and $3,620,000with an average of $3,067,163. The eighth decile is between $2,100,000 and $2,650,000, with a median income of $2,361,192.
At the opposite extreme is the first decilein which 10% of households with the fewest resources are concentrated, has a different income from $10,000 to $500,000with an average of $349,654 per month. The median family incomewhich divides the population into two equal halves, was located in $800,000meaning that half of Argentine households live with an income at or below this figure.
The distance between the extremes is also reflected in per capita family income: the median of the tenth decile is 13 times higher than that of the first. Although this is a very large gap, the index has seen a slight decline year-on-year, as the ratio was 14 to 1 a year ago.
Inequality, sources of income and structural differences
The report also shows a slight improvement in income distribution. The Gini coefficient – an indicator measuring inequality – was 0.431 in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 0.435 in the same period in 2024.
Regarding the composition of resources, 78.2% of household income comes from work, while 21.8% corresponds to non-work-related income such as pensions, social plans or pensions. This component has a much greater weight in the lower-income sectors: in the first decile it is 60.1%, while in the tenth it drops to 12.8%.
Significant differences can also be observed in the structure of households. In the lowest decile there are 257 non-employed people for every 100 employed people, while in the top decile the ratio drops to 43 non-employed people per 100 employed people.
Finally, a gender gap in individual income persists: men earn an average of $1,153,171, while women reach $838,924.
