The reputation that the Ford Mustang It is unlike any other sports car. What it evokes in the public when they see it is not produced by any other model. And that with the new version DarkhorseThe most powerful of all time with its naturally aspirated V8 engine is even more powerful.
This is the variant sportier the seventh generation, which recently entered the local market and is characterized by having more power than the GT Performance version despite having the same engine and having a special setup and aerodynamics designed for performance on the track.
It inherits some elements of the previous generation Mach 1 variant, such as the MagneRide adaptive suspension, and has an aesthetic work that makes it stand out even more than any other Mustang: everything that can be chrome, in this case, is dark.
Even if its selling price is beyond the reach of very few, it is the high-performance sports car with the best price-to-product ratio on the market and also the best value for money that is achievable.
But there’s something else about the Mustang that fascinates people. Both for those lucky enough to cope with it and (especially) for those who experience it. For many it is a dream. An idol that passes by and as such leaves those who look at it with their mouths open.
Just as in Star Wars the dark side of the Force creates an irresistible temptation to take that power, the Mustang’s dark horse proposes something similar and begins to carry it out from its appearance.
Although there are no changes in the lines compared to the GT Performance version, the proposal of this variant is changed more aggressive and sharper through an aerodynamic kit that can be easily recognized by the rear spoiler, front spoilers and side skirts.
These elements not only fulfill an aesthetic task, but are also functional, making this version the 5.0 liter Mustang with the increased downforce. Developed in the brand’s new wind tunnel in Detroit, it has undergone tests simulating up to 320 km/h. The goal was not to reduce drag, but rather to achieve greater downforce.
To learn more about the behavior of this sports car, we went to the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Autódromo in the city of Buenos Aires, as development and tuning was the focus there Improve the track experience.
And these improvements are quickly noticeable. Not because of the additional power that its mechanical assembly brings: the 15 additional horses it brings compared to the GT Performance version were evident in very specific handling problems, which was not the case for us. What Ford does clarify, however, is that the 0-100 km/h acceleration has been reduced by 6 tenths, so it remains unchanged 3.7 seconds.
However, the changes are appreciated in behavior on the track. The Dark Horse is a Mustang with a firmer suspension that better handles weight transfer when cornering and braking, ultimately resulting in a cleaner ride on the track. The steering feels a bit more direct and quick.
Keep those 10-speed automatic transmission that works perfectly. Furthermore, it is spectacular to find so many gear ratios during long, blunt accelerations: fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth… And the braking performance is felt to be outstanding compared to the size and weight of this coupe.
But none of it would be the same without the hoarse, fat sound of the wildly screaming V8 engine when it can be accelerated at full speed on the racetrack. Or even if you just turn it on and it starts growling like a Rottweiler about to have its bone removed. Or when it creates counter-explosions on some descents at very low speeds in the city.
That’s also why the Mustang, and even more so with this dark horse, continues to be a right-of-way car, allowing pedestrians in front to see it from all sides and hear its V8.
