There is less and less time left for the V16 tag to be mandatory. It will be from January 1st when the traditional emergency triangle must be replaced in Spain by this type of device, with which all vehicles must now be equipped from this date. Although many people have already received their V16 tag, there are still many more who have not yet done so. Additionally, more and more people are wondering about the other side. How much will the fine be if you don’t bring it? or, simply, what is the reason for this change.
He talked about all this on the 24 Hours channel this Sunday Ana Blancodeputy director of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and who spoke of the importance of purchasing one of these approved beacons. For that gave two guidelines to consider.
“It is first listed on the DGT website. There are all the models that have been certified and each tag bears the name of the laboratory that certified it. “These are the two aspects that must be considered” explained.
Concerning fines for non-carrying, These will amount to 80 euros. “The fine will be the same as that for not having an emergency triangle, i.e. 80 euros. Our interest is that on January 1st we all have our beacon on our vehicle,” explained the deputy director.
“The beacon provides physical protection thanks to light, to warn approaching vehicles, but also virtual protection once connected with traffic management centers, which can warn that a vehicle is stopped,” he added.
With all this, he explained that despite the transmission of information, it in no way implies that the DGT can have access to personal datasince the location is only transmitted when the driver activates the beacon himself. “The beacon is not linked to any personal data, neither to the vehicle registration number, nor to the driver’s identity document,” he added.
Furthermore, he explained that the reasons for this change are due to the increased risk of being crushed while we have to travel about 100 meters along the road to place the emergency triangle. In fact, it is estimated that between 20 and 30 accidents occur each year for these reasons.
