Humberto Carrão, who owns property in the rural area of Petrópolis, is suing the municipality over an IPTU charge that he considers unjustified. He says he pays the rural property tax (ITR) every year, but recently received a tax from the Municipality of Petrópolis, amounting to R$9,485, relating to the IPTU.
The actor claims that the fee is illegal, since the property does not have basic infrastructure that would characterize it as urban. According to data from the process, the site does not have sidewalks, a water and sewage system or public lighting, in addition to being located more than 50 kilometers from the city.
The case is brought before the 4th Civil Court of the District of Petrópolis.
