“I accept my responsibility and my mistake,” admits Gabigol after a missed penalty

Known to be an excellent penalty taker, Gabigol was unable to assert his merits this Sunday (14). In Neo Quimica Arenathe striker missed the shot that would have put Cruzeiro in the final of Brazilian Cup. The error gave the Corinthians the opportunity to move forward – and they did.

“This is not how we deserve to end the year, after a great season. Thank you Blue Nation for your unconditional support! I take responsibility for my mistake, I am sure I will come back stronger and always ready to help if necessary,” Gabigol wrote on his X (formerly Twitter).

Gabigol arrived at Cruzeiro earlier this year with idol status. At Flamengo he won the main titles he could. However, he ultimately did not reconnect with the Gávea club and arrived in Minas with the aim of representing a new phase for the club, which underwent a very considerable investment.

However, during the year he ended up losing place and found himself on the reserve bench. From there, he saw Kaio Jorge stand out and become the Brasileirão’s top scorer with 21 goals. His colleague’s good form even earned him a call-up to the Brazil team by coach Carlo Ancelotti. As for Gabigol, he now has to turn the page and prepare for next season.
