—What did you do when you finished high school?
-Magic. When I was twelve years old, I worked at children’s parties as a magician, as an entertainer. And I worked at events for many years. He hosted five or six parties a night: weddings, fifteenths, corporate parties. It was my job.
—Why wizards?
– Because they gave me a magic box as an idiot. I really liked circuses and also studied theater, singing and dance and mixed all of that.
—Always in Bahía Blanca…
– At the age of nineteen I came to Buenos Aires, where Jorge Guinzburg called me up for a season with Carlos Paz. I had a wonderful season, I met my daughter’s mother and then everything else happened to me. And social networks have also changed my life a little, my career algorithm.
—What will those who go to Mar del Plata in the summer and have never seen you find?
—Chanta is a large-scale one-man show because it has a great production and an impressive set design, written by Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn, the creators of The manager and so much more, and it is his first play directed by Marcelo Caballero. It’s a man’s life told backwards. It begins with his wake, when he emerges from the box at the age of eighty, having recently died, and goes back in time. And there’s a very crazy thing: age changes, because they drop by eight years at a time, and suddenly I walk past a door and I’m ten years younger.
– And why Chanta?
– Because it is the story of a blackmailer, the typical one… and also, recontra argento. (laughs)
—Have you adopted any gestures and postures from someone else, from another song that goes beyond the book?
“I watch a lot of people and I took a lot from my grandparents. Not because they are blackmailers, but because in the role where I play an old person – when he comes out of the box and is taken to the hospital because he had a stroke – I got a lot from them and others I met.
— Are you a serious person in your personal life?
– Much more serious than you think. I’m not bitter, I’m a happy guy. I am very happy to be alive. But I’m not a theatrical guy like you see on TV or on stage, I don’t do jokes, things, noises all day long…
—You and your wife are very good friends…
“Yes, we often accompany each other in our careers, luckily we are always very much on the same level, because sometimes when a pair of actors and actresses is doing well and the other is not doing so well, a little confusion arises. With Fer (Metilli, actress) we are lucky that we are both always doing very well.
—You owe the first round of applause to your family…
– I absolutely owe it to them. But I already paid everyone the same… That’s it. (laughs) Now don’t break me…
Agustín Aristarán’s career does not stop.
