The PP of Extremadura insists on discrediting its former municipal councilor of Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres), Paula González, who recently left the party due to the “sexist treatment” and “abuse of power” of the mayor, Enrique Hueso, which the PP leadership also tried to hide.
Attempts by the Secretary General, Abel Bautista, after elDiario.es To highlight this situation, the PP candidate and President of the Council, María Guardiola, joined this Friday, who also linked the mayor’s complaint to her desire to be included in the candidacy for the December 21 elections.
It is for this reason that González sent a letter to the media to explain “with serenity and honesty” the reasons that led him to leave the PP “in light of the information that has emerged in recent days.” The current non-registered councilor affirms that her decision “was not sudden nor the result of an impulse”, since from the beginning of the year she expressed to the party, by different means, the discomfort she felt and the difficulties which arose at the municipal level to be able to carry out her work normally.
“I did it with respect, with discretion and with the hope that the situation could be redirected,” he wrote, adding that he eventually sent an official letter to the party leadership “requesting protection, listening and mediation,” because his only intention was to always be able to work in an environment of respect and dignity, but after clearly communicating what he felt and what was happening, “no action was taken nor any solution proposed.”
In fact, the audio, published by elDiario.esin which the regional spokesperson of the PP, José Ángel Sánchez Juliá, sent the municipal councilor proof that the leaders of the party, both regional and provincial, were aware of the machismo of the mayor and that they were worried about how this matter could affect the party if it were revealed: “As they call us sexist treatment, there will be a mess”, warns Sánchez Juliá at one point in the audio of 21 seconds.
However, the PP did nothing to resolve the situation and support his partner, who in a letter expressed his annoyance at receiving delays in his complaints with messages such as: “Hold on”, “you know how Enrique is”, “we will talk to him”, “we will take action”.
“This lack of response was particularly painful for me,” says Paula González, who, therefore, “and after deep reflection,” made the decision to leave the PP and continue as an unregistered councilor.
The councilor adds that it was not an easy decision and that it involved “significant personal and emotional tension”, but she felt that “it was the only way to be consistent with myself and with the values that I have always defended”. This is why she now feels “hurt” because her departure is explained “by interpretations which do not correspond to reality and which divert attention from the root of the problem, making invisible the real discomfort that I have been expressing for months”.
He adds that “the audio that we heard from the party spokesperson corroborates this uneasiness and the conversations that have taken place since the beginning of the year and in which I reiterate my unease with the mayor’s attitudes, specifying them.” The former PP councilor appreciates the “attitude of listening and concern” shown at the time by the regional spokesperson of the PP, José Ángel Sánchez Juliá, whom she describes as “the only person who approached my situation with sensitivity, even if this ultimately did not translate into concrete actions”.
“I do not write these lines out of confrontation or resentment. I do it out of the need to explain my truth and defend my dignity. I will continue to work with responsibility, honesty and commitment for the inhabitants of Navalmoral de la Mata, with the sincere desire that dialogue and respect always continue to be required,” he concludes.
