MADRID, December 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Honduran President-elect Nasry Asfura said in a message to Hondurans on Thursday that “I extend my hand to walk together” during what will be his first presidency of the Central American country, after the National Electoral Council (CNE) gave him victory with 40.27 percent of the vote.
“With deep gratitude and assuming the honor of being able to serve you, I extend my hand to walk together with a firm determination to work tirelessly for Honduras. I will not disappoint you,” he promised in a video message.
The leader of the National Party of Honduras called on his fellow citizens to “recognize us as what we are, one Honduran family,” referring to Christmas, which “is a time of reconciliation, unity and peace.”
“Honduras, on Christmas Eve we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the prince of peace, and his arrival reminds us that love is more powerful than any division. May this Christmas find us more human and more brothers. God bless you and God bless the prodigal land in which I was born,” he said.
The former mayor of Tegucigalpa received 40.27 percent of the votes, ahead of the Liberal Party candidate, Salvador Nasralla, who obtained 39.53 percent of the votes, according to data published by the CNE.
Nasralla and the official candidate, Rixi Moncada, who came in third place with 19.19 percent of the vote, denounced that the electorate had committed electoral fraud, in accordance with the wishes of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his support for Asfura, for which he has been accused of interference.
The CNE published the official results with a count of 97.86 percent and clarified that more than 1.5 percent of the total readings present “inconsistencies”.
