Elton John’s health is an extremely delicate subject and one that causes great concern among his fans. In November 2014, the British musician revealed that, while on vacation in the south of France, he had contracted an infection which had ravaged the country and led to devastating consequences: permanent loss of vision. First it was the right eye, then the left. Now, a year after speaking openly about his diagnosis, he has updated his information and admitted that his condition has progressed to the point where he can no longer see or read anything.

— There’s hope and a feeling that everything will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck in this situation, because I can have a conversation like this, but getting into a studio and recording is a whole different story. Because, to put it simply, I don’t know how to read sheet music. I can’t see or read anything – the “I’m Still Standing” singer revealed in November 2024 during an interview with Good Morning America, adding that they were “taking steps to try to improve.”
However, just over a year after contracting the infection that marked a turning point in his life, his health deteriorated.
— It was devastating. Since I lost the vision in my right eye and my left eye is not doing very well, the last 15 months have been a challenge for me, because I have not been able to see, observe or read anything — the 78-year-old musician said in a recent interview with Variety. But despite the difficult personal moment he is going through, his essence remains intact, as does his positive attitude and his confidence in the future.

— I’ve had an incredible life and there is still hope. I just have to be patient and hope that one day science will help me. When they help me, everything will be fine. It’s like with AIDS. She also highlighted the support and encouragement she receives from her husband, David Furnish, and her two sons, Zachary (14) and Elijah (12), as well as the support of her colleagues:
— Paul McCartney calls me on FaceTime to see how I’m doing. It’s really beautiful. The affection I got from him, from Pete Townshend, from Mick Jagger and people like that, was incredible. Or I get an email from Keith Richards saying, “Hey honey, how are you?” You know we love you,” and that’s it, but it makes my day.

Regarding John’s health, Furnish told the magazine that he had undergone some treatments and noticed improvements in his left eye, which he described as positive.
— We continue to investigate and are receiving a lot of attention from several doctors who want to help and support. Because the retina in his right eye is damaged and these injuries do not heal naturally, this is an emerging area of science. But the situation is changing very quickly. What artificial intelligence (AI) is doing for medicine and science is incredible. There are all kinds of new and exciting theories and advances that make it possible to process data and run tests much faster than before,” he explained.
