The best electric blanket
Our expert chose the Beurer HD 75 Cozy electric blanket for its size and the way it maintains the temperature even at the lowest levels.
Do you usually suffer from neck painBack or neck? When this happens to me and I’m at home, one of the remedies I use is to cover myself with an electric blanket because it gradually gives me heat without burning the skin. The vast majority of models on the market allow heat levels to be controlled with a remote control and usually have safety features to prevent overheating or automatic shutdown. There are also models that can be used to wrap yourself up and feel warmer while watching TV or in bed.
How we chose and tested products
The electric blanket has always been an essential appliance at home. I have used it both to soothe my neck or neck pain and to improve menstrual discomfort. I used the tested models, almost all of which are the same size as a normal blanket, mainly to warm the bed before falling asleep or to snuggle up on the sofa while watching TV. I used the smaller model to soothe neck or menstrual pain. To test and evaluate them, I took the following characteristics into account:
- Materials: the quality of the blanket and the finish of the details. Also its degree of softness.
- Remote: how is this remote control? Is your design synonymous with quality? And the wiring?
- Temperature: all include a remote control which allows you to choose between several temperature levels. Are these levels effective?
- Use experience: if the electric blanket does what it promises, if it heats well, how it distributes the heat…

Who is it for: for those looking for a blanket that maintains temperature.
Why we recommend it: This blanket is available in two sizes: 180×130 centimeters and 200×150 centimeters. I chose the former because it seemed more than enough to wrap myself up on the couch or place on the sheets. At first glance it is quite soft to the touch so pleasant to pour over. It has up to 6 temperature levels so I started with one of the lowest and worked my way up little by little. Although it took a few minutes to feel the heat, as soon as it heats up it feels very pleasant even at the highest levels.
I used it to stay on the couch for a while and also to warm the bed for a few minutes before falling asleep. In the second case, I did it in my parents’ townhouse, which is usually closed in winter and colder. I dialed the medium level, 3, then went up to 5, and within minutes I wasn’t cold at all. On the safety side, it has an automatic shutdown system after 3 hours of use and overheating protection. It can be machine washed once the switch is removed.
Its weak points: It takes a little while to heat up, but then it gets very hot.

Who is it for: for those looking for a blanket that adapts to your temperature.
Why we recommend it: It measures 160×120 centimeters and has a velvety “fur” effect fabric that is very soft to the touch. It has 6 temperature levels and one of the features that surprised me the most is that in addition to the fact that it heats in less than 5 minutes, its technology allows it to constantly adapt to the temperature of the body and the environment, so it always offers an optimal temperature level, neither too much nor too little. On the other hand, it is possible to program it in three times: 1, 3 and 9 hours, which is very useful for warming up the bed a little before falling asleep or for turning it off automatically.
During testing I also used it to be able to sit for a while on the terrace of my house (where we have an outlet nearby). To my great surprise, I was able to spend some time reading without being cold and with a good temperature. It can also be machine washed at 30 degrees, provided the digital control and cable are first removed.
Its weak points: the price is a bit high.

10 levels: Cecotec HeatConfort Noa

Who is it for: for those looking for extra wide coverage.
Why we recommend it: This model is the largest of all those analyzed in the comparison (200×180 centimeters) so I was able to share it with my partner without problem. It is also available in other, slightly smaller sizes. In addition, it has 10 temperature levels and an extra-long cable to move more freely. This blanket is the one that reminded me the most of a (thin) quilt since it is quite thick, flannel and soft.
The fact that it has 10 levels allows you to adjust the temperature well. At no time did I need to raise the level higher, even in a colder environment like the patio of my house. Likewise, it detects changes in temperature and adjusts depending on the environment and the person using it. I used it on the couch at home, in bed to warm the sheets a little, and a little while on my patio. In all spaces, I was comfortable as was my partner since we were able to share it without problem. It has a timer with automatic shut-off and the digital control is very easy to use since it has very few buttons. Machine washable.
Its weak points: The blanket in the chosen size is large enough for a single person.

Up to 65 degrees: kdti

Who is it for: for those looking for coverage for the cervical or lumbar area.
Why we recommend it: This model is specific to be placed in the neck, back, lumbar area or to soothe menstrual pain since the cover is smaller and is ideal for these areas of the body. In my case, it helped ease some of the discomfort I had in my lumbar and cervical areas. It has 6 temperature levels (up to 65 degrees) as well as an automatic shut-off timer (30 minutes to 3 hours).
I found that this is a blanket that heats up in a few minutes and with the middle level it is more than enough to warm the painful area since the higher levels offer too much heat. At the time of use, I used it for about 15 minutes continuously and then turned it off. I also found it very soft to the touch. The digital control works properly and the cover can be machine washed without problem.
Its weak points: It is ideal for warming painful areas, not for feeling heat all over the body.

Frequently Asked Questions About Electric Blankets
Is it safe to sleep at night with an electric blanket?
It depends on the model. Many modern blankets feature an automatic shut-off and safety sensors that allow for extended use. However, many experts recommend using it to heat the bed before sleeping and turning it off when going to bed, especially for the elderly or people with reduced mobility.
Can they cause fires?
The risk is low if the coverage is modern, certified and used correctly. To reduce risks, it is best not to bend or crush it when it is on, in addition to checking the cables and connections from time to time.
Can I use an electric blanket with a memory foam mattress?
Yes, although some manufacturers recommend placing it on the top sheet, not directly on the memory foam, to avoid deterioration from prolonged heat.
