Suspension
“The House reverses course and decides to suspend Glauber for six months instead of impeaching him” (Politics, 11/12). I was sure that they would not have the courage to impeach him, especially after the repercussions in the press and on social networks of his courageous act. It was not a simple repetition of the hijacking of the table by the putschists, but a demonstration of Hugo Motta’s partiality.
João Emiliano F. de Aquino (Fortaleza, EC)
I would like to see the repercussions if a right-wing MP kicked a left-wing activist. Over time: Carla Zambelli should have been dismissed too!
Pedro Piedade (Araçatuba, SP)
This is how a revolution begins. Let us hope that this continues and that the right retreats, fearing the mobilization of the people in the name of democracy. Now is the time to pressure the Senate to blow up amnesty.
Marcelo Magalhães (Rio de Janeiro, RJ)
Last word
“The Chamber contradicts the decision of the STF and maintains the mandate of Carla Zambelli” (Politics, 11/12). Convicted of a crime, she fled the country as a fugitive and was imprisoned in Italy. However, the Chamber understands that everything is normal. It’s total demoralization. They do not care about their own reputation, decorum and dignity of the institution. Disgusting!
Flavio Calichman (São Paulo, SP)
The Chamber is right: political interests must not be listened to. Enough hypocrisy.
Edson Oliveira Silva (Itapetinga, BA)
Doing justice is not easy. The prosecution has the burden of proof, but the defense simply refuses to accept it. Suffice to say no. And there are cases where that’s really not the case. Or else we should convict all the accused. Without honesty on both sides, dialogue is impossible. And they did not indict Glauber, after so many threats, to claim to be exempt. The corporatism of the House also shelters the left.
Alberto Melis Bianconi (Taubate, SP)
6 x 1 scale
“Senate Committee approves end of 6×1 work program in quick vote” (Economy, 10/12). Cheap demagoguery. Most people are in the MEI, they work as much as they can and populist MPs will not change anything.
Marcos F. Dauner (Joinville, South Carolina)
Countries that have reduced working hours show increased productivity, reduced occupational illnesses, and reduced costs for businesses and the state. Congratulations.
Paulo Petraski (São José dos Pinhais, PR)
Discrimination
“‘I had several episodes of anxiety and crying,’ says a saleswoman fired in Alagoas for wearing afro braids” (Economia, 11/12). The “corporate dress code” has never been neutral. Coloniality and leucocracy constitute a standard of beauty that does not correspond to the naturalness of Brazil. Much has changed, but slavery and prejudice still dominate the minds of many employers.
Thiago S. Molina (El Salvador, BA)
Can’t companies set rules for their employees? Imagine a lawyer in shorts defending his clients. The good thing is that these decisions help make hiring smarter. Ah, I advocate that all discrimination be fought in an exemplary manner.
Antonio JC Lima (São Luis, MA)
An insignificant compensation, not punitive enough to discourage new racist practices.
Suéli Iossi (Ribeirão Preto, SP)
Lack of energy
“SP has 1.2 million inhabitants without electricity, chaos at airports and lack of water; Enel says it is necessary to rebuild the networks” (Daily, 11/12). Vote for climate change deniers, let’s privatize everything. So you can’t cry.
Nemesio Salvador (São Carlos, SP)
With so many facts demonstrating Enel’s incompetence, we must organize and legally demand compensation for losses and appropriate action from this company. It is unacceptable to be without electricity for more than 12 hours. Indicate. We will demand that fines be imposed. Who knows, maybe this absurd neglect will end.
Adriana Novaes (São Paulo, SP)
Immigration
“The Church in the USA makes a nativity scene without Jesus and warns: ICE was there” (Valdinei Ferreira, 11/12). I had tears in my eyes. Great action, great text!
Katia Pessanha (Curitiba, PR)
Congratulations to Father Stephen Josoma for his position which represents the true gospel!
Cecilia Rangel (Brasilia, DF)
