José Tomé made it official today Tuesday his resignation from the presidency of the Provincial Council of Lugo after complaints of sexual harassment presented in the internal channel of the Socialist Party. The former socialist maintained his innocence and insisted that “the alleged complaint is false.” “I will not stop until I find out what is behind it,” he stressed during an extraordinary plenary session at the Pazo de San Marcos.

After expressing his gratitude to the staff of the provincial institution, the current president of the Provincial Council regretted that “the damage is already done”, in “the political, the family and the social”. “There is no going back, but those who have done nothing have nothing to fear,” concluded José Tomé, according to Europe Press.
The still mayor of Monforte also assured that everything that happened “is due to supra-provincial political problems”, where, he added, it “was neither the only nor the main focus”.
Then, an ordinary plenary session will be held which will include a motion presented by the Popular Group to request the disapproval of José Tomé. The popular spokesperson, Antonio Ameijide, has already announced that he will also seek the disapproval of Representative Pilar García Porto, “for having suppressed” the matter, and appealed to the BNG: “Today we will see if they choose between feminism or walking on the carpet”.

Tomé remains mayor of Monforte
José Tomé, for his part, will retain his role as municipal councilor in Monforte de Lemos, exercising the function of mayor. The advisor explained yesterday it already has registered his abandonment of the municipal socialist group and its transition to the non-affiliated group, which will become effective from January 1. In addition, he clarified that it is “in everyone’s power” to move to the non-affiliated group, in reference to the possible abandonment of the socialist group by the rest of the members of the local government.
“The citizens elected us all to the municipal council. In the deputation, it is an indirect election. That’s why in one place I resigned and in another I didn’t.“, explained the councilor this Monday during a municipal plenary session, during which he reiterated that he was “the subject of false, unjust and unfounded accusations which respond to a political maneuver”.
The session that was to close the year began with a demonstration by feminist groups, half an hour before the start, in the Plaza del Campo de San Antón, in front of the municipal headquarters, during which they demanded his resignation from his post as mayor. The councilor entered the building amid shouts against him, but entered a room at full capacity supported by the applause from those present with cries of “take courage”.
