President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his solidarity with the daughters of Silvio Santos on Thursday, following the criticism made by singer Zezé Di Camargo towards the current leadership of the SBT. Commenting on the episode, Lula described the attack against the channel’s managers as “idiotic”.
— May you convey to the daughters of Silvio Santos my solidarity for the madness of Zezé di Camargo’s attack against them. He would not have had the courage to carry out this attack against men, but he did it against women – the president said.
This statement comes after SBT decided to cancel the broadcast of the special program “Natal é Amor com Zezé Di Camargo” and that, according to the channel’s managers, the singer was now considered persona non grata on the channel. The leaders affirm that Zezé will no longer be invited to the house programs.
After the ceremony, the singer published a video on social networks criticizing the participation of the authorities in the event, which included, in addition to Lula, the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, one of the main targets of Bolsonaro’s supporters. The artist attacked the management of the station, currently run by the daughters of Silvio Santos. In a harsh tone, Zezé declared that the company would go against the values of the founder.
“A son who does not honor his father and mother, for me, does not exist (…) You are prostituting yourself, sorry,” declared the compatriot, in reference to the leaders of the group.
This speech sparked a strong internal reaction within SBT. One of the sisters who are part of the channel’s management told columnist Mônica Bergamo, of Folha de S.Paulo, that the use of the term “prostitution” to refer to a business run by women had sparked outrage. According to her, Silvio Santos has always maintained an institutional relationship with presidents and authorities from different political sides throughout the history of the channel.
Although the event also brought together right-wing politicians, such as the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, and the mayor of the capital of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, Zezé’s criticism focused on the participation of Lula and the STF minister.
