THE Ibovespa closed slightly higher this Friday, after oscillating in the negative field, during a trading session marked by reduced liquidity and high volatility. In the middle of the end-of-year celebrations, the index increased by 0.27%, to 160,897 points, close to the maximum of 160,913 points, while the minimum was 159,359 points. Ibovespa’s financial volume amounted to only R$9.8 billion, while B3’s total turnover reached R$14.9 billion. Despite the political risks, the Ibovespa accumulated an increase of 1.53% over the week.
The market reacted negatively to the letter written by former President Jair Bolsonaro in support of the pre-candidacy of his son, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), for president, given doubts about whether the senator would have enough political capital to defeat the current government. However, throughout the day, risk aversion on national assets lost its strength.
Abroad, New York stock markets also closed near stable, amid escalating geopolitical tensions and a weak US dollar. The Nasdaq lost 0.09%, the S&P 500 lost 0.03% and the Dow Jones lost 0.04%.
