An initiative of Idis (Institute for the Development of Social Investment) aimed at encouraging donations from companies in the country, the Philanthropy Promotion Fund reached 10 million reais in assets this year. Launched in 2024, and now counting nearly a hundred donors, the model uses endowment funds as a long-term financing strategy.
Endowments, also called endowments, function as a permanent reserve of resources for public causes.
The donated money is invested and only the profits are used to finance social projects and organizations. The idea is to guarantee resources over time, reduce dependence on one-off donations and ensure the stability of socio-environmental initiatives.
The advancement of the fund is part of a context of growth of the model in the country. According to the Equity Fund Performance Yearbook 2024, Brazilian endowments reached a record 770.4 million reais last year, an increase of 48.4% compared to 2023.
The allocation of resources to causes of public interest, that is, projects that generate benefits for society, reached 2.6 billion reais. This value highlights the ability of endowment funds to finance these initiatives on an ongoing basis.
Throughout this year, revenues from the Philanthropy Promotion Fund made it possible to carry out projects aimed at producing knowledge and promoting articulation between civil society organizations working on causes of public interest.
These include the Brazil Giving Survey, the “Pathways for a Broader and More Strategic Role in Family Philanthropy in Brazil” study, actions on Philanthropy Day at COP30, and advocacy initiatives for philanthropic endowments.
The fund has also supported projects in partnership with other organizations, such as the Discover Your Cause platform and the Movement for a Culture of Donation. For 2026, it is planned to allocate approximately 1 million reais for new projects.
Donations of any amount can be made directly on the Philanthropy Promotion Fund page. For amounts above R$50,000, contact must be made by email, to comunicacao@idis.org.br.
