On the night of the celebration, there was a violent episode involving fireworks in the area 50 between 141 and 142, in the San Carlos neighborhoodwhere a crossing between neighbors almost ended in tragedy. The situation erupted when a man left his house with a machete and demanded that fireworks be stopped in front of his house because the noise was seriously disturbing his dogs.
According to neighbors, the conflict quickly escalated: after a verbal argument, several people surrounded the man and began beating him while he tried to defend himself with punches. Then the throwing of stones continued, one of which would severely hit an adult who was trying to mediate.
The protagonist of the event is Demiancalled by neighbors “Machete Madman”who gave his version of events and admitted that the situation had spiraled out of control, although he claimed he was acting in defense of his family.
“I was with my dogs and tried to calm them down because of the noises.” he began to say.”And among the blows I see one reaching the roof of my house. I go out to talk and see that the neighbors across the street were still setting off fireworks on my sidewalk. I complained well, three times. I only received insults“.
Demián assured that the provocation continued even when he decided to retire: “When one of these boys entered my house, he lit a large candle and shouted, “There goes another one!”, which caused. Then I got angry, I kicked the fireworks and they told me: ‘Go in, we will decide here’.”
In this context he took the machete. “I went out to set off the fireworks to defend the dogs and my family. There are disabled people, people with autism, who cannot defend themselves. Pyrotechnics is nonsense“, he said.
The tension led to physical attacks. ““You’re coming with a machete because that doesn’t work, you bastard,” they shouted at me. And that’s where I come to the punches. In the end I was surrounded by five people. Then they threw stones at me. One of these boys almost killed the father when he came to talk to me.“, he denounced.
Although he admitted his reaction was wrong, he insisted he felt cornered. “It was bad, it’s not the first option, but it was what it was. I’m not Bruce Lee, but I went out to defend my family with a machete“, he explained.
He concluded by leaving a message aimed at both those who throw fireworks and those who react violently: “Stop throwing rockets and stop going out and hacking people. Don’t hurt the other person, because the boundaries end when the other person’s boundaries begin.“.
