“Some artists like to shout to show that we are a novelty, especially when the medium is mediocre. The quote corresponds to some sayings of Enio Iommi from the late 70s. Freedom as the essence of the artist, to enter a world full of contradictions and leave a path full of freedoms. Those that the sculptor himself had taken for himself and with which he made a tremendous career marked by dedication, at the very moment when freedom turns into one way of feeling good.
With these words, Amadeo Azar understands his own path. He exercises his free will to compose a delicate and complex exhibition and pays tribute to his surname. Diverse in spirit and work. Papers, sculptures, videos, objects and photographs with which he shows the power of his art. The sculptures by Naum Gabo, Gyula Kosice and Raúl Lozza serve as a translation exercise. Not just because he takes up his images, but because he transfers them to a different technique: he paints them with watercolor. He lightens them, makes them lose weight in modern times and imaginatively appropriates them for a task and observation in contemporary art.
With the images of images, with photographs of these works that he painted himself and printed on the same paper that supports the lightness of this material, with frames à la Madi, he achieves a staging of the modernist project while demonstrating his delicate virtuosity and his profound thinking on 20th century art.
Authoritarians don’t like that
The practice of professional and critical journalism is a mainstay of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe that they are the owners of the truth.
