President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) toughened his speech against femicide this Monday (12/8). The PT member, pre-candidate for re-election in 2026, said that the murder of women is an institutional issue and that combating it is the responsibility of men.
“It is very rare, or almost never, to hear news of a woman who beats her husband. If this happens, he will be ashamed and will not tell anyone. It is men who must change their behavior, not women”, declared the Chief Executive during the XIV National Conference of Social Assistance, in an improvised speech. On several occasions, the PT member emphasized the responsibility of men to change the situation.
Lula said femicide is “obviously an educational problem.” “We will have to start learning at school, we will have to educate our children,” added the president.
